Applicant said Mr. Kemp was a member of Ludlow Town Council, and had at long experience of management of hotels. Mr. W. P. Presteign Blaze. Hotel Stables Destroyed. GOOD WORK BY FIRE BRIGADE. On Sunday morning an outbreak of fire occurred at the Radnorshire Arms Stables, Presteign, situate opposite the hotel in High Street. The fire was first noticed by the proprietor of the hotel, Mr Montague Kemp, who at once gave the alarm. The captain of the fire brigade (Mr J. J. Griffiths) was promptly on the spot, and the members of the brigade soon mustered, and at once devoted their attention to getting the fire under. So rapidly did the fire spread, owing to the combustible nature of the building and the contents, that the upper story was soon destroyed, and the roof fell in, the flames spreading from end to end of the buildings with incredible rapidity. The brigade did all they could to save the remaining portion of the building, and were successful in some measure, but the greater portion of the building was destroyed. The efforts of the brigade to prevent the spreading of the conflagration to the adjoining properties were successful, and very little damage was done to the neighbouring buildings. The fire continued smouldering throughout the day, and the brigade were in constant attention, and, as a measure of protection, remained on duty all night.
